Bourgneuf en Retz

  • The Arzelier Mill
    The windmill was built in 1857. It was the last mill to work in the Pays de Retz ; it closed down the year of its 100th anniversary. It is in St Cyr en Retz ( Guided tours are organized by the association "Les Amis du Moulin de l’Arzelier" in June and September during Heritage Days. Information at the Tourist Office.

  • La Fontaine des Jalberges
    In the heart of the Saint Cyr marshes, it was once the only source of drinking water for the inhabitants of the surrounding villages.

  • The wind farm


  • Le Four à Chaux the lime kiln in Machecoul
    Built on the Ilot Saint Michel in 1857 and used until 1925. Before the lime kiln, there was a Benedictine priory there. Guided tours on request (contact the Tourist Office).

  • Pumping Station la Pommeraie
    On the border between Machecoul and St Même le Tenu. Guided tours on request (contact the Tourist Office).

  • 3 locks in Port La Roche village
    In the heart of the Breton marshes, between Machecoul and Bourgneuf, they date from the twentieth century.

    St Mars de Coutais

  • La Nation Mill in St Mars de Coutais
    Private property. It was one of the seven windmills of the community. It is built on the highest point of the town, to the south, near the village of la Marzelle. It can be seen from the hiking trail which passes above, near the gîte de l’Espérance, with a viewpoint overlooking the Lake of Grand-Lieu.

    St Etienne de Mer Morte

  • The Water Mill
    Open in summer, it hosts temporary exhibitions – The mill-wheel is regularly switched on – The machinery can be seen - Guided tour during Heritage Days.
